History:

An excerpt from a book written by the Magus Kassadin, entitled "A brief treatise on the history of Valoran"

...And so, all origin mythos and superstition aside, the world of Valoran is one of the more unique among the plethora of worlds known to our Summoners. Namely, our Summoners are possessed of a superior form of magic than that found on any world we have encountered. This is not to say that other worlds lack magic, or their own magi. Far from it, many are the realms we have discovered with their own schools of magic, dedicated to one or another tradition of the arcane, or divine, to any number of gods and goddesses. Ours, however, is the only world in our experience with the capacity to consistently conjure great beings from other realms..calling warriors, kings, and yes, even great wizards and beasts of old to our battlefields, to fight at our behest.

The sheer variety of our magic is a marvel in and of itself, as well. Other worlds may have one specialty or another, but few indeed are those with half as many magi or academies of magical study as are possessed by our own on Valoran. Perhaps it is arrogance to assume that because we have not -found- any other masters of the art of Summoning, that we are the only ones. But truly, we have never heard of champions from any world being taken to places unknown...only to Valoran. Surely with so many champions located in one place, (The fabled Institute of War, discussed at length in chapter XI...) we would have felt the impact of another organization of Summoners, with our greatest prizes making a mysterious escape. As this has not happened, it is considered all but fact that we are the most skilled Summoners worthy of mention in our cosmos.

End of excerpt.Magus Kassadin retreated into seclusion shortly after completing this work, and was not seen again until he returned as Kassadin the Voidwalker. At this point, he has not published any further works or consented to give a detailed account of his travels that resulted in his current state.

Kassadin's birth and origin remain a mystery, but he is most certainly a native human of the realm of Valoran. He studied the arts of magic at the feet of some of the most prestigious tutors within the Noxian academy. The nation of Noxus was, then as ever, known for its aggressive international policies, and ruthless criminal networks. Anything could be taught, bought or sold for the right price. This made it the ideal place for Kassadin to pursue his lifelong passion: Magic. His raw intellect far outstripped both his respectable talent for the Arcane, and his theoretical knowledge of the fundamental workings of magic. He had an unquenchable thirst for more...for the forms of magic that were not taught even in the depths of Noxus itself. He found references in libraries where the price of admission would make respectable magi blanch...and trinkets with odd magical residue selling for astronomical prices. The reason? These books, and trinkets, were clues pertaining to the mystery of the Void.

The Void...the stuff of legend, for Summoners, and other magi as well. A hidden 'nether realm' full of darkness, intangible and tangible evil as well, as legend had it. There were those who gave prophecy that doom would befall Valoran someday, if the Void ran unchecked. Most modern day scholars, however, gave the prophecies little weight and credence. Kassadin cared little for the doomsaying, and maintained his studies. He learned to harness ever-stronger iterations of magic that called on the power of the Void. Soon, he became something of an 'expert' in the field, though this was more because no respectable archmagi would ever be caught dead specializing in a field so obviously corrupt..than for his own talents.

One day, while working on a potent ritual designed to teach him more of the Void itself, granting him a glimpse into its reaches...something went wrong. Or perhaps something went horribly right, depending on your perspective..the window appeared, and tendrils of dark energy promptly reached forth, plucking Kassadin from his subterrannean abode and hauling him through the portal. The agony was indescribable. Every fiber of his being was subjected to the toxic rigors of the Void...Darkness itself infused him, all the while, great, luminous eyes surrounded him, their bearers unseen, perhaps unseeable, their tendrils..(arms?) grasping him and turning him this way and that, inflicting new pain on him, as if experimenting upon him. Had his magic brought him here, or had his magic simply given them an avenue to him and his realm? His body began to change within minutes of the ordeal, turning a pale blue-gray, while his hair began to whiten. His face lost color as well, and his eyes began to burn with an unnatural fire. There was a hesitation in the tendrils now..as if they had not expected the process to last this long.

Whether the fault lay with the experimentors, or some latent strength in Kassadin's mind or body, or even in the Void-based magics he had immersed himself in, the Dark energies of his captors were not killing him. They were warping him, twisting him..into a Dark parody of the man he had been. His eyes could barely be called that now, instead a pair of blazing yellow orbs, exuding raw magical power, tainted in the worst possible way. The energy continued to pour into him, and some of the eyes began to close, or recede...were they fleeing? Or had they grown bored? Kassadin was in no shape to understand any of this, as the pain had nearly driven him mad by this point. Just as he thought he could take no more, the tendrils stopped again. This time, not through the doubt in their patrons, but from another source entirely. Darkness began to spread in an aura from Kassadin, the Void itself responding to his wordless call, his plea for assistance, begging for the pain to stop. As the tables turned, the remaining eyes fled, and a portal appeared beneath him, dropping him without ceremony out into his now-dusty home.

Time had little meaning there, it seemed..for him, it had felt like days, but could more reasonably be counted in hours. On Valoran, he had been absent for one year and a day...a most eerie omen. Kassadin was a changed man, in more ways than one. He saw now the error of his ways...there were worse things in the world than rampant greed and bloodlust..there existed things beyond the veil of worlds that would gladly tear his entire world apart. This knowledge was not simple paranoia spawned from his experience at the hands of his captors, but gained from their minds. One could hardly call them that, so alien as they were, but he sensed their malevolence, their hatred of his world of light and life, their desire to quench it entirely. If there were other fools out there, someone might actually give them a window to accomplish their dark aims. From that day onward, Kassadin had a new purpose. To stop others from imperiling themselves as he had. For him, the Darkness was a carefully leashed beast, able to be summoned and directed at will, but the utmost caution was displayed, for the good of others if not himself.

The first the realm of Valoran knew of Kassadin's remarkable transformation was when he foiled an attempt by a reviled Prophet to conjure a portal to the void..he had attempted to sacrifice innocents to appease the beings of the Void, to grant him their favor as his world would be devoured. Even as the ritual was underway, Kassadin appeared in their midst, his magic blasting apart their altar, cutting a swathe through their ranks with his mysterious manablade..one of the few relics he did not destroy. His library was burned, after his incident...by his own hand, no less. Many of his artifacts, Void-tainted as they were, joined the flames...but the bracer that conjured his blade was not wholly of the Void. The blade was magical, yes, but of a more arcane nature.

Now, Kassadin fights in the very League he once wrote of so many years ago. He numbers among those champions, and uses his influence there to help stem the tide of doomsayers and Void-revering imbeciles that seek to abuse the path to easy power, at the cost of their very essence.

One further note should be made. Kassadin's initial exposure to the Void was potent indeed, but it has steadily been growing stronger. It seems to have hit its peak in sheer potency, and now has begun pervading his body in a more intricate fashion. Darkness no longer seems to harm him, but in fact strengthens him. To that end, he finds the fresh, clean air of Valoran (Relatively speaking...Noxus does -not- count.) harms his lungs. He reqires the Void to survive...albeit in trace quantities. A breathing apparatus has been constructed as part of his armor, surrounding his face and part of his upper body, keeping a small amount of his latent Void energy flowing through him. In essence, he creates and recycles his own Void-tainted air, carefully contained. The amount is not significant enough to be a real danger to anyone else if released, but it could over time prove to be problematic...which is why the apparatus was designed to contain it, rather than simply exhale Void everywhere he went.

Notable Accomplishments: Survived being pulled into the Void, a realm of Darkness. Was successfully inducted into the League of Legends.
Training (If any): Magical tutoring, some basic swordsmanship.
