History: Darrius was one of many orphans running around the streets of Corellia, a street urchin with little to hope for beyond making the cut for a local gang, 'success' meaning he got to eat that night, 'failure' meaning he sat out in the elements, hungry. He survived by doing favors for the gang that controlled his hab-zone, sneaking about and keeping an eye out for what passed for law enforcement. He was good enough to survive, which meant something. He grew quite nimble, entering his late teens with something of a minor reputation. He was a good lookout, as such things went.
He was eager to find a way out of his lifestyle, though..he was starting to be a bit too big to associate with the younger street-dwellers, and sensed that before long, they'd see him as a liability, despite his skills. Unfortunately, an all but penniless street urchin doesn't have that many places they can go. He had very few skills, and they weren't usually what 'respectable' people wanted. He came to the nearest branch of the Bounty Hunter's guild, and attempted to...well...-apply-. However, the Guild is not in the habit of simply taking in strangers, especially ones with no capital to their name. They were, however, in the business of recognizing talent, and saw great potential in the lad. They worked out a deal quickly enough...they'd train him until he came of age, and in return, he'd serve five years performing his contracts with a -significantly- larger percentage of his take being returned to the guild, to return their investment. After that, they would be 'square'.
The training went better than they'd expected..he already had several of the basic skills under his belt, and picked up similiar things without too much issue. He was bright, and had the necessary reflexes and agility to make a name for himself. He became familiar with blaster pistols, taking them as his weapon of choice...though his instructors fully realized that he could have taken almost any weapon and learned to use it to the same degree, he seemed more comfortable with them. He called them 'Elegant' in comparison to the louder, bulkier blaster rifles..
Upon coming of age a few years later, he began taking contracts. Easy jobs at first, bringing in debtors or escaped prisoners, all contracts having the priority of retrieving the target alive over dead. Not that he was opposed to killing...if it was required, so be it. But -wasteful- killing was another matter entirely. It wasn't long before he took his first real assassination contract, and performed with flying colors. He staked out his target, arranged a time and place, and completed it without any complications. It left him with a cold feeling, but he did his best to ignore it. This was the path he'd chosen, and it certainly was better than starving in an alley, that much was certain. He even took up the basics of starship piloting in his spare time, though his 'skill' in this was laughable.
He'd heard of the Jedi and Sith, of course, but thought little of either. At one point within the last few years, a travelling Jedi Knight had encountered him, and tried to explain that he had the 'potential' to use the Force, latent though it was. He'd scoffed, not wanting anything to do with the Order...their 'Code' was far too strict for his liking. Besides, as it was, he was -well- rewarded for risking his neck on behalf of other people. Why would he want to do it essentially for free? As for the Sith...he wasn't a fool. There were certain people one never wanted to work for or with, under any circumstances. The legends he'd heard of the Sith all were equally dark..it's unlikely he'd ever agree to work for them if he thought he could get out of it.
