Learning Spells(NeXT)

To learn any spell, the user must have a Mage Level of at least the spell level of the one to be learned. A Level 4 Mage cannot learn a Level 6 Spell, for example.

Some spells are limited to a particular school of magic. This is not true for all spells, but it's always wise to double-check.

To learn a particular spell, the student must roll his or her magic skill + spirit bonus, without Feat or advanced skill additions unless explicitly stated otherwise. Gear bonuses do not apply either.

The student must beat the following DC to successfully learn the spell in question.

Level 0 - 10
Level 1 - 20
Level 2 - 40
Level 3 - 60
Level 4 - 80
Level 5 - 100
Level 6 - 120
Level 7 - 150
Level 8 - 180
Level 9 - 210
Level 10 - 300

The number of spells which may be learned per week is governed by the AA level of a mage. Orisons can be learned freely but spells of higher than 0 level are limited in how many a week may be learned.

The number of Level 1 spells which may be learned per week is as many as the level of the mage; so a level 5 mage can learn 5 level 1 spells.

For spells higher than level 1 the formula for learning is as follows:

Level of Mage/level of spell = number of spells of that level that a mage can learn per week.

The level 5 mage shall serve as our example.

How many Level 1 spells can this mage learn in a week?
5/1 = 5 with a remainder of 0
How many Level 2 spells can this mage learn in a week?
5/2 = 2 with a remainder of 1
How many Level 3 spells can this mage learn in a week?
5/3 = 1 with a remainder of 2
How many Level 4 spells can this mage learn in a week?
5/4 = 1 with a remainder of 1
How many Level 5 spells can this mage learn in a week?
5/5 = 1 with a remainder of 0

Now let us move on to learning a mix of spell levels in a week. The 5th level mage can learn a maximum of 5 spells provided the levels are low enough. Now the number of spells of mixed level which the mage can learn is determined by adding the spell levels; the level of each individual spell learned is added. A mage cannot learn more spells than the levels of which add to his/her level.

The level five mage again:

1+1+1+1+1 = 5
1+2+2 = 5
1+1+3=5
2+3 = 5
4+1 = 5
5 = 5

The levels of the spells must all add to five. So while you can mix your levels of learning, once the levels of the spells you have learned reaches 5 that is it for the week.

If you fail to learn a spell, you may attempt it again the next day with a +5 to your roll. If you fail to learn it once more, you can attempt it again the day after with a +10 to your roll. You can continue to add +5s in this manner till the spell is learned.

Your daily spell level learning attempts cannot exceed the number of spell levels for the week that you have remaining.
