Arcana

General Arcana is the most loosely defined of all the magical schools of DW. This is the skill that the Sorcery/Wizardry Dungeons and Dragons magic may be taken under, OR the school that Final Fantasy spells may be taken under. This school works the greatest with status effect magic and offers a great diversity of skills.

Arcane Intuition
Cost: 10 SP
Required Skill Level: 1

Type: Action
Effect: Gives the ability to recognize the discipline of an Arcana spell.

Arcane Defense
Cost: 10 SP
Required Skill Level: 1
Untrained: No.
Type: Action
Effect: Enables you to defend against magic by adding your skill bonus to your will roll.

Scribe Scroll
Cost: 15 SP
Required Skill Level: 2
Untrained: No.
Type: Action
Effect: Gives you the ability to write a scroll that another person can use. The roll to create this scroll is your spell-learning roll, and the DC is 20*spell level. The limit on scrolls you can create per week is the same as the spells you can learn per week. You cannot learn a spell via Scribe Scroll; it is treated as a one-use item.

'Effect' Meta-Magic

Type: Ability
Effect: Arcane spellcasters often have ways of tweaking their spells slightly to create a customized version. This skill enables you to increase the damage mod of a given spell by 250 if you spend twice the MP necessary.

Arcane Identification
Cost: 30 SP
Required Skill Level: 3, 'Arcane Intuition' Advanced Skill

Type: Action
Effect: Identify a spell cast in the Arcana discipline.

Extension Metamagic
Cost: 60 SP
Required Skill Level: 4
Untrained: No.
Type: Ability
Effect: Like the other meta-magic skill, this allows you to modify a spell on the fly. +2 rounds to the given duration for a spell for 2x mp cost.

Improved Spell Damage
Cost: 160 SP
Required Skill Level: 7
Untrained: No.
Type: Bonus
Effect: Boost Arcana magic damage by +500.

Obscure Casting
Cost: 200 SP
Required Skill Level: 8
Untrained: No.
Type: Action
Effect: Obscures a spell casting. A mage of a lower level Arcana cannot identify this spell. Obscured spells can not be countered, but cost triple MP.

Maximization Metamagic
Cost: 275 SP
Required Skill Level: 9
Untrained: No.
Type: Ability
Effect: This ability allows casters to maximize the effect of their spell. When this is used, any variable component of the spell is considered automatically maximum (damage, number of hits, duration, etc) and multiplies the cost by 3. A maximized spell may not be rerolled with a luck or even fate points.

Master Magic
Cost: 400 SP
Required Skill Level: 10, 'Obscure Casting' Advanced Skill
Untrained: No.
Type: Action
Effect: Your spells cannot be countered or identified by any below mage level 10. Cost on MP is *5.
