Spears / Polearms

The spear was first used for hunting, as it gave a hunter much needed range to keep monsters and dangerous animals away from the hunter's body. The spear found similar use in combat, to keep a shorter-reach soldier at range and to deal deadly blows with two-handed strength. The spear underwent many, many changes over the years, growing in size and spectacle, with blades, hooks, and multiple points added to create entirely new, deadly weapons for many purposes, colloquially called polearms. The base spear, however, has not gone out of fashion.

The typical spear is a long shaft of one material, with a sharpened head at one end. That head can be shaped in many different ways, can have multiple points, and can be large or small. The polearm is a long shaft with a type of weapon on the end of it, such as a curved blade (such as a glaive) or a hook (such as the guisarme), though these are generally in addition to a spearhead for thrusting attacks. These different configurations give a weapon utility, but all are generally used the same way and thus are classified together.

Spears and polearms are considered 8-slot weapons. The use of a spear reduces armor effectiveness of the targetted enemy by 5% per use up to a maximum of 25% reduction, and spears and polearms have the ability to pull mounted riders and low-flying (1 Area above the ground) targets down to the ground with a single attack. Spears and polearms can be used to block attacks, and can be blocked by other weapons; they are also able to be used with custom attacks and multiple hit maneuvers.
