ASSAULT RIFLES

Assault rifles were developed in response to the heavy machine gun and submachine guns, as a 'middle-of-the-row' between the two. An assault rifle is capable of being carried by a single person while it also has the stopping power and firing capabilities of a machine gun. While typically regarded as the modern soldier's mainstay weapon, an assault rifle is a tricky weapon to utilize effectively, especially when used fully automatic or in burst fire. The recoil from an assault rifle can be staggering, which reduces aiming capability when sustaining fire. However, a master rifleman has the ability to compensate for this drawback by using their skills to their advantage, and in a master rifleman's hand, even the most inaccurate weapon can be fearsome.

Assault rifles typically come with three firing modes: single shot, three-round burst, and fully automatic. They carry small magazines ranging from twenty to thirty rounds, and while the more compact models are fitted for smaller calibers, all assault rifles have the capability to do massive damage to any one person or close-knit group of individuals.

Note: Despite this, damage set for these weapons is considered to be in 'three round burst' mode. It cannot be divided or multiplied by using the other modes. HOWEVER, these DO allow the assault rifle to be used with different Advanced Skills that it would otherwise not, including Suppressing Fire, Strafe, and -- if equipped properly -- sniper rifle-quality Called Shots (no penalty taken.)
